Google Maps can appear in Audi Virtual Cockpit on some newer systems, but not on every Audi. On many older cars, phone-based Google Maps stays on the center MMI screen while the instrument cluster is reserved for Audi’s own navigation.
Audi navigation and the Google Maps app are not the same thing
Audi Virtual Cockpit has long been able to show the car’s built-in navigation on compatible models. Some Audi connect systems have also used Google Earth or Google satellite imagery inside Audi’s own navigation.
That is different from projecting the Google Maps app from your phone into the instrument cluster.
Newer Audi platforms can mirror phone navigation
Audi’s information for the 2026 A5 and Q5 says smartphone navigation can be mirrored into both the MMI touch display and Audi Virtual Cockpit. On those supported systems, Google Maps used through a compatible smartphone interface may appear directly in front of the driver.
Older Virtual Cockpit systems are more limited
Many earlier Audis show Apple CarPlay or Android Auto apps only on the center display. The Virtual Cockpit may still show Audi Navigation plus, but that does not mean Google Maps from the phone can be moved there.
Connected map imagery also changed over time, so seeing Google-branded map imagery in an older Audi does not necessarily mean the Google Maps phone app is running in the cluster.
How to check your car
Confirm the exact model year and infotainment generation, then check whether Audi’s equipment information mentions smartphone-navigation mirroring to the driver display. If Google Maps works on MMI but never appears in Virtual Cockpit, that may simply be how that generation was designed.
